Birthday Week Twenty21 !

2 min read

What can be better than celebrating your birthday in Barcelona? May be, celebrating it in Paris! What can be better than that? We have an answer! It is celebrating two birthdays back to back on the same week, one in Paris and other in Barcelona. This was our birthday week travel in France and Spain this year. The day we noticed that our birthdays are only five days apart lying in the same week, we set ourselves a travel goal, to travel-celebrate our birthdays every year, and this year it was Europe.

Travelling through Dubai we reached Paris on Priya’s birthday only to experience what Audrey Hepburn quoted long back, “Paris is always a good idea.” Three days just vanished as we lost ourselves in the historical past and the autumn vibes of the old yet so youthful city. Walking down the boulevards with falling autumn leaves, to reach parks, palaces and museums kept us busy and relaxed at the same time. The weather helped us, sun rays at shallow angles kept us warm enough to keep our winter clothings at bay while the refreshing cool breeze from over the Seine River assured no sweating. Because I have visited Paris during the summers in the past, I can suggest that Autumn is surely a better time to visit the city.

Then came my birthday and we had already headed south on euro rail to reach the city of Barcelona in Spain. To our surprise Barcelona was already in party mode. There was no impact of covid restrictions, the city was buzzing with tourists. Medieval winding streets passing beside Gothic cathedrals, packed with tourists shopping at flea markets popped out the tourist sitting deep within us so we hopped on an open top tourist bus.

Barcelona has this charm of amusing every traveller and if you are party lover who enjoys architectural magnificence then you will be awestruck. I had read about Antoni Gaudi and his brilliance but witnessing what he has created in his life time is unreal. No photographs can do justice to the grand yet natural structures he has created. From Barcelona we went to Madrid, spent two days in the capital city of Spain before boarding on our flight back to Delhi. Now as I am writing, I am desperately waiting for my next birthday.

If birthdays are so much fun, I don’t mind getting old 🙂
