Prague
Total Duration : 3 Days | September 2022
Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is a city that truly captures the essence of traditional Europe. We visited Prague during the autumn of 2022 and were awestruck by the city’s beauty and charm. The weather was perfect for exploring the city, with a little drizzle adding to the romantic ambiance. The crowd was also less, this is another reason why visit Europe during Autumn apart from our birth dates.
Our trip started with visiting the Franz Kafka rotating sculpture during the evening we reached Prague. The sculpture perfectly captures the essence of the great author and philosopher’s work, and we found it to be truly inspiring. As Kafka once said, “Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.” Next we visited Wenceslas Square, a bustling hub of activity and culture. The square is surrounded by historic buildings and monuments, including the National Museum and the St. Wenceslas statue. As we strolled through the square, we couldn’t help but feel like we were walking through a time machine. It truly felt like we had been transported back to another era.
Next morning when the clock struck 9am, we were standing in front of the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square, the magic started and we were back to 15th century. The clock has been running for over six centuries and is a true marvel of engineering. As we stood there and watched the clock tick away, Albert Einstein truly said “Time is an illusion.”
We walked down the Charles bridge to reach the John Lennon Wall, which is a colorful and vibrant tribute to the legendary musician and peace activist. The wall is covered in graffiti and messages of peace, love, and hope. It’s a beautiful reminder that music and art can transcend time and bring people together on humane causes. One of the most iconic landmarks in Prague is the Charles Bridge, which spans the Vltava River. The bridge is adorned with beautiful statues and offers stunning views of the city. We walked across the bridge at sunset and were mesmerized by the golden light that bathed the city.
The Dancing House is another architectural masterpiece that we visited. The building is aptly named for its unique design, which resembles a couple dancing. As Frank Gehry once said, “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” We again visited the Old Town Square, which is the heart of Prague’s historic district. The square is surrounded by stunning architecture and is home to the famous Prague Orloj. This is where we had the iconic ‘Donut Icecream’ and it was really toothsome.
The Klementinum Library was another such place which no one should miss. The library is one of the most beautiful in the world and is home to thousands of books and manuscripts. As we walked through the library, we couldn’t help but feel like we were in a fairy tale. We also experienced our first ever opera performance at the National Theatre. It is another architectural masterpiece, a stunning example of neo-Renaissance architecture and is a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage, where we watched the staging of ‘The sleeping Beauty’, it was magnificent.
Finally, we visited St. Vitus Cathedral, which is a breathtaking example of Gothic architecture. The cathedral is located within the Prague Castle complex and is home to the Czech Crown Jewels. As we stood in the cathedral and took in the stunning stained glass windows and intricate stonework, we were reminded of the famous quote by Victor Hugo: “Architecture has recorded the great ideas of the human race. Not only every religious symbol, but every human thought has its page in that vast book.”
Our visit to Prague during the September of 2022 was a truly unforgettable
